During menopause women are more prone to suffering from high cholesterol, high blood pressure, osteoporosis and diabetes. Hence, food plays a very important role in controlling these and other negative symptoms of menopause, such as difficulty sleeping, hot flashes, mood swings and bouts of depression.

To make this period easier to bear, there are certain foods that can improve and alleviate the symptoms of menopause.
We’ll tell you a few of them:

Foods rich in phytoestrogens: these have similar functions to estrogens and make up for the hormonal deficit that occurs at this time. For instance, soya reduces hot flashes, increases good cholestorol and reduces the risk of breast cancer, osteoporosis and risk of heart disease. At El Naturalista we have Natursoja, capsules made with medicinal plants that contribute to reducing the symptoms described above.

Alfalfa: very rich in genistein, which, like soya, is excellent in sprouted form and can be added to your daily salads.

Calcium-rich foods: dairy products, such as cheese, yogurt and milk are all highly recommended. And, if you’re lactose intolerant, good alternatives include sardines, anchovies, nuts, figs, brussel sprouts, onion and garlic, which are also high in calcium.

Rich in boron: boosts estrogen levels in the blood. For example, strawberries, tomatoes, apples or pears.

Rich in vitamin C: such as peppers, kiwis, papayas…

Rich in essential amino acids: legumes, eggs, bread, rice…
